The legroom for the rear passengers has increased markedly, which undoubtedly has a positive effect on the level of comfort. Front passengers are also not deprived of comfort. Comfortable seats with good lateral support, a wide range of adjustments, including lumbar support, and a steering column adjustable for height and reach offer good opportunities for choosing the optimal position. The volume of the luggage compartment has also slightly increased, which is now 990 liters, and 1945 liters with the rear seats folded.

Changes in the design of the car deserve special attention. The Grand Cherokee now has a monocoque body structure and fully independent suspension, which is best reflected in the handling and comfort level when driving on quality roads.

In addition, the fourth generation is presented for the first time with a Quadra-Lift air suspension (available only in the "Overland" version), with five different settings, each with a different level of ground clearance. In "normal" mode (NRH), the ground clearance is 204.5 mm, in "Off-road 1" - 242.5 mm. Off-road 2 mode provides 270.5 mm and is ideal for overcoming difficult terrain, in Park mode the clearance is 164.5 mm and serves for the convenience of boarding and disembarking passengers. Mode "Aero" 189.5 mm is designed for driving on highways and is activated automatically when a certain speed is reached.

The new Selec-Terrain system is a very good addition to the air suspension. It allows the driver to select modes for optimum performance on and off road. The system coordinates up to 12 different systems that control the powertrain, brakes and suspension, including throttle control, automatic transmission range shifting, transfer case gears, traction control and dynamic stability control. The driver can choose one of five modes for optimal driving performance on all roads and off-road: Sand / Mud (sand / mud), Sport (sport), Auto (auto), Snow (snow), Rock (stones).

As for the drive, here the company's engineers dispensed with bright premieres and applied two time-tested schemes, however, having previously modernized them. So, for example, the center differential in the Quadra Trac II drive scheme is no longer provided; an electronically controlled friction clutch is responsible for the distribution of torque. Depending on road conditions, up to 100 percent of the torque can be realized through the wheels of one of the axles. The transfer case has a reduction gear with a gear ratio of 2.72.

Quadra-Drive II with electronically controlled rear limited slip differential (ELSD) delivers best-in-class traction. The system constantly monitors the level of wheel slip and smoothly redistributes torque between the wheels with better grip. In some cases, the system is able to predict the onset of wheel slip and controls the distribution of torque between them to forcefully reduce the level of slip.

For the first time on the Russian market, the Grand Cherokee was presented with two engine options: a completely new 3.6 and a reliable, proven over the years 5.7 HEMI engine with 352 hp. and a torque of 520 N * m. This engine was used to power the previous generation Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was produced from 2004 to 2010. The 5.7 HEMI easily accelerated the previous Grand Cherokee body in 7.1 seconds, however, according to official figures, in combination with the new body 5.7 shows much more modest results - 0-100 km / h in 8.7 seconds. At the same time, 5.7 remained no less voracious, despite the system of disconnected cylinders. Owners of this car need to be prepared to consume 25 liters of 95 liters of gasoline per 100 km.

3.6 DOHC - a completely new engine, developed specifically for the Jeep Grand Cherokee 2011 model year, shows quite decent characteristics: power 286 hp and 347 N * m torque. According to the manufacturer, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, equipped with a 3.6-liter power unit, can accelerate to 100 km / h in 9.1 seconds. It's just 0.4 seconds slower than the Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 HEMI. At the same time, the consumption of 3.6 DOHC is noticeably more economical about 18 liters per 100 km in the city. Regardless of the modification, a 5-speed "automatic" with the function of manual gear selection is offered as a transmission.

Sales of the Jeep Grand Cherokee with a new 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine equipped with direct fuel injection and turbocharging started in Russia on September 1, 2011. This engine, developed in collaboration with Fiat, develops 241 hp. power at 4000 rpm and reaches 550 Nm of torque in the range of 1800-2800 rpm. The combined fuel consumption of a vehicle equipped with this engine is 8.3 l / 100 km. CO2 emissions (also combined) up to 218 g / km.

The car is made at a high quality level in terms of safety. The design includes 45 systems and units that can help in an emergency. Basic equipment includes anti-lock braking system (ABS), stabilization system (ESP), seven airbags, dual-zone climate control, full power accessories, alloy wheels, multimedia system with a touch screen, adaptive bi-xenon headlights.

This generation has an attractive appearance, rich equipment, a spacious interior, good handling, decent dynamics, comfort and, of course, excellent off-road qualities.

Four years later, following the debut of the fourth generation of the model, Jeep has decided to update its flagship SUV, the Grand Cherokee. The 2014 model year car was first shown to the public at the Detroit Auto Show. The model has undergone changes both outside and inside, and also received a new diesel engine and a modified automatic transmission.

The characteristic elements of the restyling are the "squinted" headlights, in modern fashion, surrounded by LED strips of running lights, a modified radiator grille and fog lights, which are now located higher on the bumper. LEDs have also been added to the re-shaped taillights, while the rear itself has an enlarged roof spoiler, a new bumper and twin chrome tailpipes.

Inside, the 2014 Grand Cherokee has been modernized and refined. In the interior decoration, which has reached a higher level, high-quality leather is widely used, combined with wood and aluminum. The car received a three-spoke steering wheel and a gear selector of a new design, a fundamentally different design of the climate control unit. Separate words are deserved by the updated dashboard with a 7-inch TFT display in the central part, which visually looks like part of the speedometer on the left and the odometer - the digital image is complemented by analog semicircles. The developers have promised more than 120 different options for combining data on the dashboard. When switching to sport mode, the devices change the backlight. The driver can choose a digital or analog speedometer, display detailed data about the trip. Fuel consumption, engine temperature, tachometer, compass, power reserve are all displayed on the dashboard. You can also call up an additional menu, where you can see anything you want - from songs and calls to suspension indicators.

The front panel has a multimedia system UConnect with an 8.4-inch touch screen. Music, navigation, picture from the rear view camera. All controls are touch-sensitive. This screen even performs operations such as ventilating or heating the seats.

The place of the rather bulky automatic lever has now been taken by the elegant joystick selector of an eight-speed automatic transmission from the German company ZF. It does not obscure the buttons on the center console and is made in such a comfortable shape that it can easily serve as a palm rest to work with the adjacent buttons and controls if necessary.

The car retained the same range of engines and chassis, but received a new 8-speed automatic transmission. Standard on all trim levels, this transmission can significantly reduce fuel consumption and emissions, improve vehicle dynamics, and provide smooth and fast gear changes.

If we compare the characteristics of the previous and updated Grand Cherokee, then the difference is noticeable. The version with a three-liter turbodiesel still accelerates to "hundreds" in 8.2 seconds, but its "appetite" has decreased to 7.5 liters of fuel per 100 km. A car with a 3.6-liter gasoline V6 takes the first 100 km / h in 8.3 seconds (previously - for 9.1) and consumes 10.4 liters of gasoline for a hundred-kilometer mileage against the previous 11 liters. The performance of the modification with a 5.7-liter V8 also improved: acceleration in 7.3 seconds (it was 8.7), gasoline consumption - 13 liters (it was 14.1).

The entire chassis and off-road arsenal of the Grand Cherokee 2014 was taken over from its predecessor without any modifications. This is the Quadra-Drive II all-wheel drive system with a constant redistribution of traction along the axles, and the Selec-Terrain traction control system, and the Quadra-Lift air suspension, which allows you to increase the ground clearance to 28 cm.

In the basic configuration of the car, there are additional active safety systems: parking assistant, adaptive cruise control and a potential collision warning system.
