Our domestic auto industry is going through hard times. But he is already getting to his feet and walking in the right direction. An example of this is our good old GAZ 3309. This car is a truck made in Russia. It came off the assembly line along with the fourth generation of trucks. It was equipped with an on-board carburetor, which at that time was quite reliable and had a high operating efficiency. The year of the beginning of its release was 1983, but already in 1994.
Appearance of the truck Gaz 3309
Gas 3309 was something new in its time and made it possible to oust from the market and the conveyor a large number of trucks that, in terms of their technologies or high production costs, were already obsolete. The carrying capacity of Gas 3309 is equal to 4 tons. The cross-country ability of this car also differed from its counterparts, but still experienced some difficulties when driving on wet and soft ground. The main road model was the urban massif. Gas 3309 had high technical performance for its time, the car's suspension had in its structure all the best modifications of that time, which just made it possible to work outside the city road.
Gaz 3309 began its existence in 1994 and belongs to the 4th generation of medium-duty GAZ trucks.
The first models of this brand had a four-cylinder engine powered by a turbocharged diesel with a power of 116 hp. The working volume of the cylinders is 4.15 liters. After some time, GAZ 3309 began to be produced with another diesel engine equipped with a turbocharger, with six cylinders and a power of 150 hp. But already in 1997, the 3309 was discontinued. This was due to the fact that such a car was considered economically unprofitable.
Car modernization
After the automobile plant in the city of Gorky began to rebuild, decisions were made to modernize the cab. The Gaz 3309 cab was quite significantly changed and the development of a diesel engine for a car began. The diesel engine made it possible to achieve more power while reducing fuel consumption.
In order to create a diesel engine for Gas 3309, technologists had to make a lot of efforts. During the development, a large number of new machines and stands were purchased. They were used for engine tests and comparisons with the gasoline version. In the course of a technological breakthrough, a diesel engine was developed that was turbocharged. It worked perfectly with the car and allowed to move heavy vehicles quite cheerfully.

After making changes to the structure of the cab, it was decided to pay attention to the internal components of the Gaz 3309. In the early 80s, many of the units that were present in the car were redone. A large number of modifications that affected the suspension, body, engine, transmission made it possible to make the car itself cheaper, but at the same time it had a higher efficiency.
Additional cab and chassis modifications
The cabin of the new GAZ was improved again, it was enlarged for the comfort of the driver, this made it possible to accommodate two rather large people in it. In addition to the area, the cabin had excellent ventilation, which made it easier to drive long distances in the summer or in hot regions of the country. And for the northern side of Russia, the Gaz 3309 heating system was improved.
This car became the first truck in the country, the steering modifications of which included a hydraulic steering wheel, which made it easier to turn and make driving more comfortable even at low speeds. Gas 3309 began to roll off the assembly line in 1989, it had a carburetor engine and the ability to carry a load of no more than 4.5 tons.
After the successful launch of the 4.5 tonne modification, development of the 5 ton vehicle was started.
Modification of gas 3309 for 4.5 tons
In order for it to be able to withstand this weight, the wheelbase and transmission of the car were strengthened. In 1993, the production of a series of cars was started, which possessed this modification. They almost immediately replaced the old Gaz 3309 models, but they cost more than their smaller counterparts. It had a large set of improvements and some old nodes were replaced by:
- New engine with six cylinders;
- Air cooled.

Cab and platform
The GAZ 3309 truck is equipped with a metal frame with some reinforcement. At the front, there are hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers that act on two sides, and longitudinal springs are added at the rear. The machine has a rear axle drive and dependent front and rear suspension. GAZ 3309 with all-wheel drive is produced by special order.
Braking system of the machine with two circuits, hydraulically actuated, with a vacuum booster for each circuit. Subsequently, the GAZ 3309 device was modernized, the car was retrofitted with an anti-lock braking system ABS, which improves the quality of braking. In the event of a failure of one circuit, there is always a second spare circuit.
The truck is equipped with a five-speed manual transmission.
The car is equipped with a separate hydraulic booster, which allows the driver to calmly control the movement of the car.
The car is equipped with an oblong hood, branded gas steel bumper and round headlights. The interior of the truck has been supplemented with many plastic elements. For the rest, almost all parts of the cab repeat the GAZ-3307.
However, there are some differences, for example, the doors are sheathed with fabric upholstery, the seats for the driver and passengers have become more comfortable and comfortable, with seat belts for each passenger.
Van on the GAZ-3309 chassis
The main task of the car is the transportation of industrial and non-industrial goods, during the transportation of which there is no need to comply with certain temperature and humidity characteristics. For this reason, the GAZ 3309 van is produced without additional insulation materials.
Due to the design features of the car, it provides, during the transportation of goods, their protection from various weather factors and poor-quality road conditions.
The car frame is made of longitudinal channels with cross beams, and the frame of the walls, ceiling and doors is made of a square tube.
The floor is made of wooden planks, sheathed with moisture-resistant plywood, and the bottom of the loading platform is sheathed with zinc, which does not allow dirt and water to get on the wooden floor of the van. This constructive model is called wireframe.
The van doors open wide, the angle at the moment of maximum opening is 270 degrees. Due to the hinges used, the doors can withstand heavy loads. The openings for swing doors themselves are pasted over with rubber seals.
The van can be equipped with several exterior cladding options:
- laminated plywood- repels moisture, there is no need for painting, does not corrode;
- clad metal- galvanizing with the application of a special enamel, which is applied in the factory at high temperatures.
Unlike the frame version of the van, there is also a frameless one, which consists of multi-layer panels with an original system of mutual fastening.
The positive aspects of the frameless option include:
- weight reduction;
- increase in carrying capacity;
- longer service life of the van.
The van is illuminated from the inside by ceiling-mounted shades. Lighting inside the van is provided by ceiling lamps. The van is equipped with a sliding ladder and hand holders.
