I have a new Koleos, the most full set which is supplied to Russia. Compared to the old one, the new one is softer, quieter. After the purchase, a few days later I went to Nizhny Novgorod. Suddenly realizing that I am the only owner of a 2nd generation diesel Koleos on the Internet, I decided to write a short review.

The diesel engine has a start-stop. The sound of the engine does not annoy, at acceleration it will first growl, and then it is not audible. It rides a third of the pedal in the same way as a test drive 2.5 with a pedal in the floor, that is, the diesel is actually much more cheerful. From 60 to 120 km / h is generally a fairy tale. After 140 km / h, it blows off a bit, but still picks up. While running in, I did not accelerate faster than 150 km / h. The sound in the cabin at 2.5 is barely audible from a diesel engine, and at three it growls a bit.

There is no webasta, the hair dryers turn on immediately from the stove, so it is warm in the cabin. The air is not hot, but warm. I tried at +8 (at night). The salon warmed up to normal temperature in less than two minutes. By the way, even cars with standard Webasto heat up the salons very gradually.

I never thought that I would take Renault and pay more than two million rubles! Expensive! However, life brings surprises ... Well, French car industry too. I really liked this car, not like the previous generation. Appearance - a complete cool!

In general, the dynamics of the machine turned out, if not very frisky, then pleasant, at least. Consumption is also not scary: the highway is 7-8 liters, the city is 11-12 per hundred run.

Equipment is a cloud! LED headlights (very cool), heated steering wheel, mirrors, front and rear seats. There is also ventilation in front of the seats, I did not think that such a pleasant thing in summer heat. Acoustic system BOSE with good sound.

The salon looks simpler in comparison with the exterior, but it is assembled normally. The multimedia screen is vertical, just like Tesla's.

Suspension settings are good. A breakdown is possible only in normal holes, through which a driver in his right mind will not prance. Cracks and waves of asphalt are felt, but not critical. But in the corners, the car stands like a glove. What I’m not getting used to is parking lots. I have an automatic pilot, but he will agree to park where the truck will enter. I don't see any sense in it.

I park myself, using sensors and a camera. Parktronic displays the graph on the screen, only the graphics are not very visual - you approach the object, the red divisions light up, but the yellow and green ones do not go out. In general, it is not clear.

Renault Koleos - from the latter category. As in the first generation, he remained a close relative. But then, and now not a bit like him. Instead of Japanese unpretentiousness - a bright, purely French look. Europeans are not surprised by this. It is not the first year that Renault has been sold in the Old World, decorated in a new corporate style. These are, in particular, Espace and Talisman. But for us this image is new. But we ended up in the forests of Karelia during the thaw days, when the snow became wet and heavy. As long as there are ruts under the wheels, albeit not rolled, but loose, Koleos confidently moves forward. There is enough clearance for most situations. The All Mode 4 × 4 i all-wheel drive transmission can be kept in automatic mode and, according to the pictogram on the instrument cluster, in such conditions, the electronics throws only 5-10% of the thrust back.

On the virgin soil, the car immediately has problems. And this is despite the fact that the snow cover reaches exactly to the lower edge front bumper, and the car is shod with top Continental ContiIceContact 2. Of course, the thaw created the lion's share of the difficulties: it would be easier to ride on dry snow. But the confidence in the car is much less.

It is curious that we did not bring Koleos to the message about overheating of the variator or clutch. However, an abnormal smell was clearly felt in the cabin, and a couple of times the car limited the engine to 2000-2500 rpm. It was worth standing for a couple of minutes Idling, and everything returned to normal, you can punch the track further. In short, Koleos is a typical representative of the crossover tribe, or, as they said before, parquet SUVs... It is better not to push him to feats.

In his element

After returning from a forest walk, I expected to drive Koleos along snakes, ovals and other figures marked right on the ice of Lake Ladoga, although I suspected that the organizers would not allow it. Firstly, in Moscow, journalists already lined up are waiting for them, so it is extremely undesirable to tear off the bumpers on the parapet. Secondly, the variator is objectively not adapted for annealing on bends of sports tracks. So why rape the transmission? And thirdly, perhaps the Koleos are too heavy for the ice. Its curb weight is more than 200 kilograms more than that of Duster and Capture.

In exchange, he begged Koleos on a short trip along the surrounding roads in order to get an impression of the car in normal conditions ride. On snow-covered country roads, the crossover suspension unexpectedly and unpleasantly punched a couple of times, and it worked out potholes with a loud knock. Overall, Renault turned out to be what I expected - average. Steering, brakes and suspension are completely devoid of sporty notes, but endow the car with a reliable character with measured driving. I had a chance to drive only on one version - with a 2.5 engine with a capacity of 170 hp. The variator does a good job of simulating switching classic box gear, but the dynamics does not excite the blood. The exact numbers for the "Frenchman" have not yet been announced, but you can focus on the platform Nissan x-trail with a similar power plant, which weighs about the same. One feels that the creators have worked on soundproofing. In this respect, French models have always been stronger than Japanese ones. So the Koleos seemed to me quieter than the X-Trail. But the noise from the contact of road dirt with the thresholds seemed excessive and slightly spoiled the generally favorable picture. But I am still confident that Koleos can be in its segment.

Percentage and moment

When accelerating "gas to the floor" by wet asphalt in automatic mode, up to 15% of the moment is transmitted back, and I saw this figure only at the peak, usually - 5-10%. If you do a similar exercise on ice, then the maximum for a moment reaches 25%, and the lion's share of the time walks between 15-20%. At the same time, according to the sensations from behind the wheel, there is no serious slipping of the front wheels, the speed gain is even.

The Lock mode is also provided with a forced equal distribution of torque between the axes. But if it works for Duster up to 80 km / h, then for Koleos it turns off after 40. As a result, there is no need for it on more or less hard surfaces and he can only help on the off-road. Moreover, the border of the transition to automatic settings clearly hints that it is not worth experimenting with the conquest of very difficult areas.

Difficulties in translation

The start of Renault Koleos on the Russian market is scheduled for the summer. Dealers will have three versions. Gasoline aspirated engines with a volume of 2.0 and 2.5 liters are well known to Russians from Ixtrail, and will not undergo changes on the French model. But the diesel is different. Nissan supplies us with a modest 130-horsepower 1.6 unit, while Renault relies on a two-liter one with 175 horsepower. The company does not even expect to "blow up" the segment with its new product, soberly assessing its chances. Director of Development Renault brand Anatoly Kalitsev pointed out the key factor that will allow the second generation car to become more popular than its predecessor. This is a combination of a two-liter gasoline engine, four-wheel drive and automated transmission. Koleos did not have such a thing in our market, but, according to competitors' sales statistics, it provides the main demand.
