Lada xray automatic transmission. Manual gearbox, manual transmission. Manual Transmission

Choosing a high-quality and reliable transmission is one of the most important points when choosing and buying a new car. Which gearbox offered as a transmission for Lada XRay will best meet the expectations and needs of potential buyers, you can find out in this article.

What gearboxes are installed on X Ray

The choice is not very large - the manufacturer offered only two options in the range of available transmissions. However, the proposed types of boxes are quite capable of meeting the needs of any domestic driver.

Available for this model: a five-speed robotic gearbox - AMT and a five-speed manual transmission. What they are - it is necessary to tell in more detail.

5-speed manual transmission

A manual gearbox for Lada XRay, according to many experts, will become one of the most popular vehicle equipment options. As a manual transmission, a French development will be used, which is successfully used by the Renault concern, which in turn was provided to equip many Renault and AvtoVAZ models. The front-wheel drive high hatchback Lada XRay is no exception. This box shows good results and works like a clock.

The service life and resource of the box, previously used by the French manufacturer to complete the second generation Renault Logan, do not raise any doubts about its quality and durability. It is quite unpretentious to use and rarely requires major repairs.

Previously, this manual transmission has already been successfully used in the assembly of the Lada Vesta, released for sale in November 2015. As the reviews of Vesta's buyers show, this unit does not cause any complaints in operation, therefore it will become a worthy choice for every buyer of Lada Kh-Rey.

The only question a potential buyer might have is some imbalance in terms of motor power. For some reason, the designers have created a fairly rigid framework when assembling power units, so the manual transmission is used only in conjunction with two not the most powerful engines. The Russian engine VAZ-21129 (1.6 liters, 106 horsepower) and the Japanese H4Mk (1.6 liters, 110 horsepower) are weaker than the VAZ-21179 engine (1.8 liters, power 122 hp), which is available only with AMT. For example, in the most budgetary version of X Ray, the power is 106 hp. may not be sufficient to provide the necessary vehicle dynamics.

5-speed robotic automatic transmission (AMT)

As for the automatic machine, AvtoVAZ used its own development - a robotic five-speed transmission with the ability to "intercept" control in manual mode. It will be possible to use the "robot" proposed by the developer for equipping the Lada XRay only in the configuration of the power unit together with the VAZ-21179 engine, which has a volume of 1.8 liters and a rated power of 122 hp.

You can learn more about how the automatic transmission of a domestic manufacturer works in more detail in numerous videos that were created both by independent experts and by journalists from large print media on automotive topics. In general, the operation of the variator was found to be quite good, taking into account the latest adjustments from the manufacturer.

The disadvantages of AMT include the tendency to automatically downshift when climbing a steep slope. If the car starts to reduce power, there is a risk of losing momentum when overtaking on this hill (despite the built-in electronic stability control). The incorrect adjustment of the traction control system, which muffled the engine speed when the bearing front wheels slipped, also contributed to this misunderstanding. Since these nuances were noticed even during the first test drives, it is hoped that the manufacturer corrected these shortcomings in time. As a last resort, it is recommended to intercept manual control by switching the variator.

The second nuance is common to all automatic transmissions. One way or another, the electronics "slows down" a little with an increase or decrease in the gear, so there are some delays in the operation of the mechanism. An experienced driver with manual transmission will get significantly better vehicle acceleration rates than even the most advanced automatic.

Why AvtoVAZ abandoned its own mechanics

One of the most important questions about the Lada XRay transmission can be precisely this factor. Why did the manufacturer ignore its own manual transmission in favor of a French design? There are several reasons for this.

First, the French design really shows a higher level of reliability. This unit is more durable, does not require such frequent oil changes and generally behaves much better. During the operation of cars equipped with a five-speed French manual transmission, questions arise extremely rarely.

Secondly, domestic designers were never able to fix the Russian mechanics of their own manufacture by the beginning of the serial production of X Ray. This unit, used in some of the concern's developments prior to Vesta (for example, in Kalina and Grant), showed too high a noise level - the operation of the box was audible even in the car, which put a lot of pressure on the nerves of many drivers.

If we consider that the prices of the French and domestic manual transmissions are quite comparable (the domestic one is slightly cheaper than the foreign one), then this solution turns out to be the most reasonable and profitable when fully considering the assembly of the Lada X-Ray.

Conclusions for potential buyers

The conclusion is simple enough, but not too obvious. Since the mechanics are equipped with two less powerful engines, without the possibility of installing it on the flagship VAZ-21179 engine, and the automatic machine, on the contrary, cannot be installed on weaker engines, the buyer is seriously limited in his choice. Choosing mechanics, he automatically excludes from his field of vision the most productive engine from the proposed line, and choosing an automatic machine, he loses the opportunity to save on the motor, choosing a less demanding fuel.

Nevertheless, this defect causes more attention to the Lada XRay "Comfort" configuration, in which a choice of mechanics with a Japanese engine and an automatic transmission on a 1.8-liter engine is available. According to many experts, it is this configuration that will be the most sold and demanded.

There are more and more connoisseurs of two-pedal cars every day. It is not surprising that automobile concerns are going to install automatic transmissions not only on expensive, but also on budget models. AvtoVAZ also does not intend to lag behind global trends, as a result of which a number of its cars are already equipped with automatic transmissions. The entry into the market of the new Lada X Rey hatchback itself implied the presence of a version with an automated box. What has X Ray prepared for potential buyers?

Lada Xray - automatic transmission or AMT?

The solution to this issue was extremely important for the company, because the domestic manufacturer intended to create a modern, technologically advanced and relatively inexpensive car. It was for budgetary reasons that the hatchback version with the classic 5-band "automatic" was discarded, as this would have a noticeable effect on the price of the Lada X Rey. Of course, there was the option of equipping it with a 4-speed torque converter from the Japanese concern Jatco, but the installation of only a 4-band box was considered meaningless, since with it the image of the model, as a technologically advanced car, would have immediately faded.

Robotic box AMT Lada X Rey. As it turned out, this is the golden mean between price, quality and convenience.

As a result, a compromise solution was found - a 5-band, robotic transmission of the AMT type of the VAZ-21827 series.

Features of the design of the "robot" Lada Iks Rey

The basis for this box was a mechanical transmission of the VAZ-2180 type. Its design was modernized, an electronic control unit, actuators supplied from Germany by ZF, a clutch from VALEO and multi-case synchronizers were added. Oil is filled in it for the entire service life, so that its periodic replacement, as in a simple "machine" or variator, is not provided.

The gear ratios in such a checkpoint are as follows:

1st gear - 3.636 units;

2nd gear - 1.950 units;

III gear - 1.357 units;

IV transfer - 0.941 units;

V gear - 0.784 units;

Main gear - 3.938 units;

Reverse gear - 3.500 units.

In general, the quality of the robotic box is inferior to that of the classic 5-band "machine". The robot twitches harder in traffic jams, does not react so quickly to kick-down commands and so on. In addition, the convenience is affected by the need to put the X-Ray on the parking brake when stopping on an incline. However, it also has strengths:

There is no background noise, as well as vibration on the gearbox lever.

No need to warm up - while a conventional automatic transmission has to be warmed up before driving, the "robot" does without it. Even in frosty weather, you can go right away.

Towing cars and trailers is an extremely useful function. After all, a simple "automatic" driving in this mode, as a rule, does not withstand. But for AMT Lada Iks Rey, towing is not terrible.

No need for maintenance.

A gear reset mode is available.

Acceptable fuel consumption in city driving - 8.5 liters per hundred.

There is a blocking against erroneous switching.

The "robot" also has a manual mode.

In general, all these advantages, along with a lower cost, fully justify AvtoVAZ's decision to save money and make the price of the car a little lower.

AMT, ready for installation on Lada X Rey.

The reaction of motorists

Initially, many were skeptical, believing that a robotic box could not replace the classic "automatic". Nevertheless, as the operation progressed, all the advantages of the transmission were revealed, and the absence of breakdowns added points to the AMT piggy bank. However, many believe that without a full-fledged "automatic" Lada X Rey it will still be difficult to compete with other models.

The video presented briefly tells about the technical data of Lada X Ray. The AMT box is also mentioned:

The new Russian crossover Lada Iks Rey is equipped with modern gearboxes that have been developed specifically for this model. From a technical and practical point of view, the new gearboxes are superior to the previous versions that were installed by AvtoVAZ on other Lada models. The new boxes receive many positive reviews from motorists who have put them to the test in various driving situations.

Lada X Rey is available to customers with three different gearboxes. Two of which were designed by French specialists, and the third was developed by AvtoVAZ. French gearboxes are five-speed manual gearshifts. The Russian transmission, which is installed on the Lada Xray, is a robotic automatic machine. Russian-made AMT transmission very quickly proved itself to be the best and is currently considered one of the most reliable and high-quality transmissions of its kind. The robot allows the driver to switch from automatic to mechanical mode and back at any time.

More about checkpoint

Lada X Rey has three gearboxes of the following modifications:

  • mechanics JR5518 is a French-made five-speed transmission with multi-cone synchronizers;
  • mechanics JH3512 is a French-made manual gearbox with 5 gears;
  • the VAZ-21827 robot is a Russian-made robotic transmission.

On the Lada Iks Rey, manual transmissions are available in all vehicle trim levels, from basic to top prestige. The robotic machine on the Lada Xray is not available in all configuration options, it can only be obtained by purchasing Optima Comfort, Top and Top Prestige.

Manual Transmission

Lada Iks Rey on the mechanics is of two options: JR5 518 and JH3 512. Both boxes are of French production, have five shifting steps and are distinguished by reliability and precision of shifting high-speed gears. The new manual transmissions received a number of advantages over their predecessors. They now vibrate less and run quieter. To transfer from one speed to another, you now have to spend even less effort, the lever travel is light and smooth.

The shifting mechanism has been moved from the bottom of the box to the top. Thanks to this innovation, much less oil needs to be poured into the Lada X-Ray gearbox, which allows for good savings on this consumable. Also, the possibility of freezing and thickening of the oil has disappeared, now the possibility of complicating gear changes at subzero temperatures is excluded.

The gearshift module itself in the Lada X Rey is of German origin. He is responsible for the clarity of the execution of commands and the timeliness of the transfer of speed modes. Also, the manual transmission is equipped with new synchronizers and a secondary shaft, which makes it more durable and quiet.

Consider the characteristics of the mechanics of the Lada X Rey in more detail:

Robotic transmission

For strategic reasons of AvtoVAZ, Lada X Rey was equipped with AMT instead of an automatic transmission. The first reaction of car enthusiasts on this score was negative, but later in practice the robot proved its worth and justified the expectations of the management, earning trust and an excellent reputation among car owners. A Russian-made robot is installed in Lada Xray, which was able to surpass foreign counterparts in quality.

The robotic transmission, which is on the Lada Xray, has electronic components that compensate for the work of the clutch. German actuators are installed in the new box, and the clutch is manufactured by the world famous VALEO company. The robot works in automatic and mechanic modes.

Characteristic features of the robot mounted on X-Ray:

  • there is protection against incorrect switching;
  • availability of automatic / mechanic modes;
  • Xray with such a transmission, fast acceleration is available;
  • there is a gear reset mode;
  • low fuel consumption (about 6.5 liters in the city);
  • low oil consumption;
  • does not require warming up even at very low temperatures, you can immediately turn on and go;
  • the automatic machine installed on the Xray independently adjusts to the driver's driving style, while normalizing fuel consumption and increasing driving comfort;
  • the robot arm on the Xray does not create vibrations, the box works silently;
  • thanks to the robot, Lada Xray can tow other cars and transport trailers;
  • automatic transmissions change quickly, without jerks and various jerks.

AMT characteristics on Xray

According to the reviews of car owners, Xray with AMT works clearly and without any serious flaws, but in rare cases there are box twitches. Another small drawback is the need to fix the pressure on the gas or put the car on the handbrake when parking on uneven terrain, when the car can roll.

Outcome

Lada Iks Rey is equipped with high-quality gearboxes that function without failures and any serious shortcomings. However, in the opinion of the majority, AvtoVAZ should have made an option with an automatic transmission.

In addition, the new gearboxes use much less oil thanks to the shifting mechanism moved to the upper sphere. These changes led to a decrease in the likelihood of difficult gear shifting in negative temperatures, as well as the complete disappearance of the problem with thickening and freezing of oil.

What is the difference between manual transmissions on LADA XRAY »LADA Xray | Lada X Rey

We understand the features of the mechanical gearboxes of the Renault-Nissan alliance for the new Russian compact crossover.

Today, future owners of LADA XRAY are offered to purchase a car in two versions: a foreign set with an engine from the Renault-Nissan h5M alliance (1.6 l. 110 hp) and a French manual gearbox Jh4, a Russian version with a new engine 21179 (1.8 l. 122 hp) produced by JSC AVTOVAZ and automated mechanical transmission LADA. A little later, official dealers will have a symbiosis of our 21129 engine (1.6 l. 106 hp) and the foreign JR5 gearbox of the Renault-Nissan alliance, which is already used on LADA Vesta cars.

General points

In this post, we'll take a look at the differences between the Jh4 and JR5 manual transmissions for the new compact SUV. Both gearboxes are largely the same in design, but differ in clutch release assemblies, gear ratios in the gearbox, gear shifting mechanisms and passenger comfort. Both one and the other gearboxes for XRAY are made on a two-shaft scheme, and have synchronizers for all forward gears, which are combined with a differential and a final drive. A 3-cone synchronizer is used for first and second gears. For the third, fourth and fifth, conventional synchronizers are used. All boxes have foolproof protection and block reverse gear when moving forward. Transmission oil is poured into both boxes during production, the service life of which is equal to the service life of the entire car. Therefore, it is not replaced during routine maintenance of the vehicle.

Visual differences

The JHЗ transmission clutch release unit represents a cable shift connected to the clutch pedal. The JR5 transmission clutch release assembly is a hydraulic slave cylinder. The slave cylinder is connected by a pipeline to the master cylinder, on the rod of which the clutch pedal acts. The JNZ gearbox is controlled by a rigid rod, and the JR5 gearbox is controlled by two flexible cables. As a result, the inclusion of gears of the box intended for the Russian motor will be more comfortable than it is done at the checkpoint for the Alliance motor. This will especially noticeably affect the very principle of inclusion, which will be made easier and without the click characteristic of traction control boxes. The advantage of the Jh4 box will only be revealed at high speeds. Higher gear ratios of 3.4, 5 speeds allow the car to pick up speed faster and, as a result, make overtaking faster. In terms of maximum speed, this gearbox also outperforms the JR5 gearbox for the Russian engine. The maximum speed with the Russian unit will be 5 km / h lower. But the number of engine revolutions at the same speed for a pair with a JR5 will be lower.

In terms of fuel consumption, according to the passport data, a pair of Renault-Nissan h5M (1.6 l. 110 hp) and a French manual transmission Jh4 will be more economical than our 21129 engine (1.6 l. 106 hp) and a foreign gearbox JR5 of the Renault alliance. -Nissan. According to the data presented on the official website of LADA, consumption in the combined cycle will be less by 0.5 liters, and on the highway by 0.3 liters. The differences in fuel consumption are not so great, and if the owner is interested in lower vibration loads on the gear lever and easier gear shifting, then his choice will be a set with a Russian engine and a French gearbox. Another important factor will be the price of T.O. Components for a domestic unit are cheaper than similar parts for a foreign counterpart.

Manual transmission, manual transmission.

Any car owner wants to extend the life of the drivetrain. And the main helpers in this matter are timely service and high-quality components. But the safety margin of the checkpoint is also strongly influenced by driving style and habits. They are the ones who are able to quickly bring the gearbox into a pile of useless pieces of iron.

A funny fact that almost none of the car owners on the "mechanics" remembers: while the vehicle is moving, you should not constantly keep your hand on the lever. The fact is that this knocks it out of balanced wear and, as a result, is fraught with premature wear of the "filling". As statistics show, drivers often do exactly the opposite: a habit that is not easy to give up. By the way, the existing armrest provokes this action (hold on to the lever).

Another bad habit that often occurs among the owners of "mechanics" is a weak pressure on the clutch pedal. Without squeezing it all the way, the driver begins to change gears, which is why gradually the teeth of the gears are covered with a "pattern" from chips.

Often, inexperienced drivers do not want to make unnecessary gestures, and therefore they "hammer" into "neutral" during a long stop (for example, in a traffic jam). And it turns out that the bearings of the box are subject to increased wear during idle operation.

And, of course, the driving style. With an aggressive manner, when the driver accelerates sharply and brakes sharply, “forcing” the transmission, it is at least pointless to hope for its durability.

Another frequently encountered "joint" is the attempt to change gears using force. Keep in mind that like any other mechanism, a manual transmission can get slightly stuck. Therefore, if the first time you did not manage to move the lever easily and naturally, you do not need to press on it with all your strength. If the failure occurred for the first time (if this "behavior" of the manual transmission is not the norm), it is usually enough to release the clutch pedal, then depress it again and repeat the manipulations with the lever.

And yet, there are drivers who are reluctant to depress the clutch pedal when switching from gear to neutral (for example, for coasting) and they simply "knock" the lever into neutral. So, get ready for the fact that soon your box itself will constantly go into neutral when the "gas" is released. This is called "gear out." Tested for myself in my youth.

Replacing the gearbox lada xray (vaz iks ray)

In the new Lada x ray, modern gearboxes are used, the development of which was carried out specifically for this model. The presented checkpoints are the next step for AvtoVAZ vehicles. They deservedly sound positive reviews among motorists who have tested them in action.

There are three gearbox options for xRay, of which two were developed by the French, and the third by AvtoVAZ itself. The first two options have a five-speed mechanical gearshift, and the domestic gearbox is a robotic automatic. Domestic AMT transmission quickly proved to be the most reliable and high-quality among this type of gearbox. When used, the driver can quickly switch between mechanical and automatic modes.

Gearboxes are classified into the following options:

  • JR5 518 manual transmission - French 5-speed, using a multi-cone synchronizer;
  • Jh4 512 manual transmission - French 5-speed gearbox;
  • robot VAZ-21827 - a robotic box of AvtoVAZ.

Mechanics in lada xRay

The X Rhee manual transmission is divided into two variants: JR5518 and JR3512. Although they both have 5 gears, they differ in the clarity of the shift and the reliability of the transmission as a whole. Unlike the old gearboxes used by the manufacturer, the new ones are much quieter and vibrate less. The travel of the shift lever has become smooth and easy to move, which reduces the applied forces while driving.

The gearshift module for x ray, which is responsible for the smoothness of the shifting, was produced in germany. The output shaft and new synchronizers betray the quietness and durability of the box.

Robotic checkpoint in xRay

For strategic reasons, AvtoVAZ decided to replace the conventional automatic x ray with a robotic gearbox. Initially, this checkpoint was not accepted by motorists, but after a while it was able to get an excellent reputation, showing its advantages in practice. She was able to bypass foreign counterparts in quality of performance.

The robotic gearbox has built-in electrical components that compensate for the clutch operation. The clutch itself was produced by Valeo, and the actuators are from Germany. The box contains protection to prevent incorrect switching. The gearbox has low fuel and oil consumption. It offers both manual and automatic modes, as well as a gear reset mode. Gear changes are quick and jerky.

The automatic transmission in xRay is able to independently adapt to the driving style of the owner, and does not require warming up, even in severe frosts. In general, the reviews of the owners are positive, but there are also questions about its work. For example, the need to fix the pressing of the gas pedal or during the stop is not camping. In some cases, there may be slight twitching of the checkpoint.

Some owners of a Lada Xray with a cable transmission (manual transmission 2181) were faced with an annoying howl coming from it. This Xray flaw received a lot of publicity. They are trying to get rid of this problem in a cardinal way, installing an alternative transmission - "robot" (AMT 2182), which, however, is also not ideal ...

The Lada Xray automated transmission is based on the serial manual transmission MKPP-2180. The development of the machine was carried out jointly with the German company ZF. The gearbox Lada Xray was equipped with gearshift and clutch release actuators, and modern software was developed. The peak of the transmission noise level in the cabin at 1500–3500 rpm decreased from 55 to 35 dB.

Alas, extraneous sound can still appear in 1st and 2nd gears when the revs are approaching 2000 rpm.

Therefore, if you notice a barely audible howl on AMT, you should not be upset ahead of time. In some cases, it goes away after running-in, or after changing the transmission oil. Another solution is soundproofing the car floor. In any case, the bulk of motorists are not worried about howling AMT.

Unfortunately, AMT's noise is not its biggest drawback. More details ...

For example, when shifting gears, jerks, jerks appear or during operation extraneous sounds are heard (howling, hum, crackling, etc.).

Consider the instructions for determining AMT faults

The check procedure is described in the book on the operation, repair and maintenance of the Lada Vesta car:

1. We are convinced of the operability of the AMT control system, for this, turn on the ignition. Then, pressing the brake pedal, move the selector lever in turn to all positions, while the corresponding symbols should be displayed on the instrument panel. After that, we return the selector lever to position N ("neutral").

2. We start the engine. If a howling sound is heard from the clutch housing, it is likely that the clutch release bearing is worn. A similar sound can be caused by wear on the gearbox bearings.

3. Keeping the brake pedal pressed, switch the selector in turn to all positions, while making sure that the gearshift mechanism is working. Switching on should be easy, without crackling or crunching.

Comment:

  • If the howling sound increases when the clutch is engaged, the clutch release bearing is worn out. If the sound disappears, then the gearbox bearings are worn out.
  • If a crackling sound is heard when the gear is engaged, the car jerks, it means that the clutch is not completely disengaged. The reason may be a malfunction of the gearshift mechanism, wear or loss of elasticity of the diaphragm spring of the clutch, as well as a malfunction of the electric drive for disengaging the clutch. To check the gearshift mechanism and the electric drive for disengaging the clutch, it is necessary to check the DTCs stored in the transmission control unit, therefore, this work should be performed at a specialized maintenance station with the necessary equipment.

4. Set the selector lever to position N ("neutral"). We lower the brake pedal, while the car should not start moving.

5. Checking the operation of the Lada Xray gearbox in motion. To do this, turn on mode A (moving forward in automatic mode) and slowly press the gas pedal. In this case, the clutch should engage smoothly. We move first with acceleration and then with deceleration, we are convinced of the smooth engagement of the clutch, smooth gear shifting (both upward and downward), in the absence of crunching, knocking and other extraneous gearbox sounds.

6. Turn on mode M and repeat the test, changing gears in manual mode. To do this, move the selector lever first towards the "+" symbol, and then "─". The box should work smoothly, changing gears in the selected direction.

7. We stop the car and move the selector lever to position R. After releasing the brake pedal, the car should start moving backward.

Comment:

  • Jerks and chatter when the clutch is engaged can be caused by oil or warpage of the clutch discs or destruction of the torsional vibration damper.
  • Untimely gear shifting, or engaging a gear that does not match the driving speed is caused by a malfunction of the transmission control unit.
  • Jerks and delays when changing gears while the car is moving, engaging gears with a shock may indicate a malfunction of the gearshift mechanism or the electric drive for disengaging the clutch. The elimination of such problems is associated with the need to read the fault codes stored in the transmission control unit, so this work should be performed at a specialized maintenance station with the necessary equipment. In addition, when replacing a faulty electric drive mechanism, it is necessary to adjust the transmission control system. Otherwise, correct operation will be impossible.

Recommendations: If it is not possible to restore the operability of the gearshift mechanism or the electric drive for disengaging the clutch (for example, due to the lack of spare parts), then AMT can be converted to manual control. To do this, it is necessary to dismantle the specified parts and install a cable-driven gearshift mechanism, as well as a clutch release cable.

8. When driving in third or fourth gear, sharply press the gas pedal. If the RPM rises quickly and the vehicle accelerates sluggishly, the clutch will slip.

Comment:

  • Clutch wear can also be indicated by the smell of burning in the passenger compartment, emitted by the highly heated friction linings of the driven disc. In this case, the clutch must be replaced.

9. We inspect the gearbox on the flyover from all sides, making sure that there are no transmission oil leaks.

The advantage of the JH3 box will only be revealed at high speeds.

In terms of fuel consumption, according to the passport data, a pair of Renault-Nissan H4M (1.6 liters 110 hp) and a French manual gearbox JH3 will be more economical than our 21129 engine (1.6 liters 106 hp) and a foreign gearbox JR5 of the Renault alliance -Nissan.
