Remote control of preheater PPP Volvo XC60, XC70, S60, S80, V70. Remote control of the pre-heater of the PPP Volvo XC60, XC70, S60, S80, V70 Is the battery discharged during the heater operation

On diesel Volvo cars supplied to our market, a pre-heater is installed at the factory as standard. On cars Volvo XC60, XC70 - from Webasto, and on XC90 (2003-2014) - from Eberspacher, on the modern SPA-platform is mainly Webasto.

The diesel preheater performs the following functions:

  • Allows you to warm up the engine and interior before starting at low temperatures. This allows you to confidently start the car even in the most severe frosts.
  • Using the timer, you can warm up the engine and interior by a certain time. This is especially pleasant in severe frosts, as you find yourself in the warm space of the car.
  • Maintains the operating temperature of the running engine. As you know, diesel engines take a long time to warm up in severe frosts and quickly cool down at low speeds, i.e. traffic jams. If the engine is cold, the cabin will be cold.
  • Thus, the correct operation of the preheater on a diesel engine is very important for the correct operation of the engine, its confident start in any frost and a comfortable temperature in the cabin.

What and how does it work?

Prestarting heaters (PPH) Volvo work on the main fuel of the car. A special pump supplies fuel from a common tank to the heater. It is injected into the ignition zone through the fuel injector. Mixes up with air and ignites with a glow plug. Air is pumped into the combustion chamber using an electric fan.
The generated heat from the combustion of the fuel heats the water circuit of the PPP. It is connected to the vehicle's cooling system. Antifreeze is heated in the pre-heater and is pumped through the system by an electric pump.

Does the battery discharge when the heater is running?

The electrical components of the installation are powered by battery energy. These include: control box, water pump, electric fan, glow plug, sensors, etc.
The power consumption during the operation of the PPP is quite strong. Closely monitor the condition of the battery.

    What is important to know?

    1. The pre-heater runs on the main fuel. If the fuel is frozen in the tank, it will not flow into the heater either.
    2. The rechargeable battery is strongly discharged during the operation of the PPP. It is important to follow the rule - how long the heater has been running, so much time is needed to run the car with the engine running in order to return the charge to the battery.
3.Before winter, it is necessary to check the battery so that there are no problems with starting the car.
    4. For comfort in the passenger compartment and proper engine operation, it is necessary that the pre-heater is working in cold weather.

With web technologies, it turned out to be not so difficult to find entire virtual colonies of Volvo fans, fortunately, there are still old contacts and connections from the times when I was the proud owner of a car of this brand. People responded willingly and gladly answered questions, with many I was personally acquainted.

The main task was to summarize my own impression of the car, reinforcing (or refuting) it with public opinion, to find strengths and weaknesses and conclude whether the game is worth the candle or not. Having "searched" several large forums and talked to a dozen owners, I found out the following.

In 2011, almost 100 OOO Volvo XC60 vehicles were sold in the world in 2011. This is more than 1/5 of the total sales of all Volvo. The model is undoubtedly popular: here the advertising also played a role, constantly emphasizing the concern of Swedish car manufacturers for safety, and the fact that this is the most suitable car for the winter. I tried to check the last statement, because our equipment has to work in winter conditions for almost six months.

Yes, the XC60 warms up quickly, and the auto-heating system creates additional comfort in cold weather, but there are no absolutely problem-free cars, there are still some complaints. Volvo xc60 characteristics.

Problem number 1, which came to light during operation and was confirmed by other owners: there is no heating of the wiper zone on the windshield. Result: freezing of rubber bands, ice on the glass, deterioration of visibility.

Problem # 2. With the onset of cold weather, some owners complain about the appearance of errors in the ABS / DSTC sensors. The service says that this happens when the temperature drops sharply. But in fact, these errors can appear simply from the fact that the sensors are bombarded with mud, snow and reagents.

Problem number 3. The most painful topic of the XC60 is, perhaps, one: the same Webasto pre-heater, the praises of which I sang in one of the previous issues. This is especially true for diesel engines. The crux of the problem: quite often during the winter, the Webasto does not turn on, and this function is blocked. What is the reason: firstly, autostart does not occur if the tank is almost empty (less than 10 liters of fuel). Secondly, at low temperatures, the fuel can freeze (especially for diesel engines), attacks as the fuel supply pipes to the heater are very thin, then it can freeze inside, and the supply will be disrupted. With three or six unsuccessful switching on, the function is blocked, and the on-board computer displays an error. After that, the only way to fix it is to go to the dealer. By the way, I’ll tell you very secretly that competent service technicians do not recommend refueling with fuel with a large amount of additives, especially in winter - they predict problems with starting Webasto in frosty weather.

Supplement to problem no. 3 and to the question of "webasto". Don't be alarmed when a cloud of black smoke comes out of the tailpipe, especially if you've been using a pre-heater a lot lately. Most likely, this is triggered by the system of burning the formed soot and self-cleaning of the device.

As a recommendation, it is advised not to turn off the heating ahead of time. For the system to function properly, it is important that the preheater works for at least 30 minutes - then the soot formed will burn in the desired mode and be knocked out in a black cloud.

Problem number 4 (not winter). The headlights on the Volvo XC60 / XC90 are expensive and can be easily removed. The main thing for this is to open the hood, and there are two mounts and a headlamp free. At one time, according to Volvo service technicians, there was a real epidemic in Moscow - they broke the driver's windows, pulled the lever and everything was ready: a matter of a couple of minutes. This is why Volvo is now offering an extra strong glass laminate - the Security package. Withstands strong blows.

Information about the standard Volvo heater

The standard pre-heater of Volvo cars is controlled via digital W-bus and CAN buses, which makes it difficult to connect additional control devices to it.

Depending on the level of Volvo equipment, the pre-heater can be configured as “engine re-heater”, “pre-heater with timer”, “pre-heater with remote control”.

In the first case, the heater does not have any controls in the car and “lives its own life”, turning on independently to warm up the engine at low air temperatures after the engine is started. In the second variant, the instrument panel menu contains 2 timers for the start time during the day and an item for immediate activation of the heater.

In order for the pre-heater to become a pre-heater with timers, it is enough to write new software for the car at a Volvo dealer. The next level of control is the ability to start the heater from the original remote control (Webasto Telestart T91 with Volvo logo). To connect the remote control, you will need to install the Telestart receiving module, with the obligatory procedure for "prescribing" program timers in the car and changing the configuration of the heater for operation via the W-bus.

What is the Autoplugin RCP module for?

The RCP module allows you to connect the remote control to a standard Volvo re-heater / heater without changing the heater configuration and use a wide range of devices as a remote control (including a standard key fob, GSM module, alarm remote control, etc.).

All variants of the module implementation do not require professional installation in the car. It is enough to insert the supplied cable with a plug into the OBD-II service connector, which is located on the dashboard, to be able to start and stop the heater using a standard Volvo key.

Autoplugin benefits

The cost of a regular remote control
The Autoplugin RCP module allows you to use a regular key-fob as a remote control for the heater - this is the most inexpensive solution. RCP also allows Webasto Telestart T91 to be connected. In this case, the cost of the kit will be lower than that of the standard solution. The standard Volvo remote control is compact and convenient, but in fact it is a Webasto Telestart T91 remote control with the Volvo logo applied. At the same time, such a remote control is more expensive than the usual T91 Retail.
Installation cost
A module or kit from Autoplugin can be connected via the OBD-II service connector by the driver at any time, no professional installation is required. Only the installation of the software for the heater operation with the W-bus bus costs about 11 "000 rubles for Russian Volvo dealers *
Start Timers
The Autoplugin DSS Kit and GSM Kit provide remote weekly scheduling with a choice of 5 or 7 days per week. The standard on-board computer programmed only two launch times for the coming day.
Remote control selection by heater
Autoplugin offers remote control options for controlling the heater, different in their capabilities, but always equally attractive in cost: standard key-fob, Webasto Telestart and Defa Smart Start remotes, GSM-modem with the ability to receive information about the heater's operation on the phone. The Webasto T91 remote control with installation costs more than 30 "000 rubles. For cars from the 2012 model year, it is possible to order an expensive (more than 50" 000 rubles) option with a subscription fee (14 "000 rubles per year *) when assembling the car - Volvo on Call, which allows you to control the heater from a smartphone. Also Volvo for cars from 2013 model year with a key-communicator offers software installation in the car, which allows starting the heater from a standard key using a combination of button presses. Its cost is more than 15 "000 rubles, which more than 2 times the cost of Autoplugin Key-V2 with less functionality.
