How to connect a xenon lamp without a connector. Xenon installation. Installation in a standard headlamp

Before talking about how to put xenon on a VAZ 2110, I would like to immediately note that there is nothing supernatural in doing this work: you don’t need special education or electrician skills, you just need a little time and a basic idea of xenon lamps. By the way, about tuning VAZ 2110.

VAZ car owners who decided to install xenon on their car, most likely, have already studied all its positive and negative sides, as well as the principle of operation, so we will not dwell on this, but we will go straight to work on installing xenon on the VAZ 2110.

Headlight disassembly.

In order to get to the lamp, you first need to remove and disassemble the headlight itself. This is done in the following way:

  • first of all, the car is de-energized; for this, the “negative” terminal is removed from the battery;
  • then you need to disconnect all the electrical connectors to the headlights;
  • then, using a wrench, the two upper bolts of the headlamp are unscrewed;
  • and the mounting bolts from below are dismantled in the same way - after removing the radiator grille, of course;
  • when all the bolts are unscrewed, a decorative trim is pryed off with a screwdriver: first it shifts slightly to the center, and then it is completely pulled out;
  • unscrew the fixing nut (for this you will need a 10 "head), which secures the headlight to the bracket;
  • after the work done, the headlight is taken out;
  • now the hydrocorrector cylinder is removed, after which the headlight itself is removed from the housing;
  • further, unscrewing the mounting bolts, remove the turn signal;
  • do all the above steps with the second headlight.

When both headlights are disassembled, you can proceed to the next phase - the direct installation of xenon on the VAZ 2110.

Xenon installation.

Before you start the main work, you will need to purchase four “mothers”: two of them should have a regular mount, and the remaining two should have fasteners for a thick cord. Only after everything is purchased, you can proceed to the step-by-step installation.

  1. At the first stage, two wires are cut with a knife - yellow and brown. The brown wire is "minus", and the yellow one, respectively, is "plus". Once you're done, clean them up.
  2. Using round-nose pliers or a clamp, crimp two brown wires onto the “mother” purchased in advance, and then, for safety reasons, insulate them with electrical tape.
  3. Carry out exactly the same action with the yellow wires, only here you already need to use the “mother” for a thin cord. And do not feel sorry for the electrical tape, because if a short circuit occurs, serious problems will arise, but do you need them ?!
  4. The xenon lamps themselves should be installed in the headlight without problems and complications - freely, however, only if they are not from the manufacturer BOSH - you will have to tinker with them a little: manually, using a round file, you will need to increase the hole for the lamp inlet. The main thing is not to overdo it, otherwise you will have to reel or build everything back up.
  5. Using a drill, drill a 23mm hole in the protective cover, then pull the wiring coming from the lamp into it.
  6. Insert the lamp through the inlet into the base and secure.
  7. At the next stage - connecting the "mother" - you need to be extremely careful. When connecting, do not confuse the “minus” with the “plus”! This error can disable either the xenon lamp itself or its ignition unit.
  8. We connect the ignition unit. During this procedure, it is better to follow the scheme that comes with xenon. The scheme is drawn in an accessible way, so it is almost impossible to make a mistake here.
  9. The final step is to connect the headlight and connect the “minus”.

After both headlights are assembled, test yourself by turning on the low beam. If the glow is bright blue, then the installation of xenon on the VAZ 2110 was done correctly, and the new optics are ready to go.

Video on installing xenon on a VAZ 2110

More and more modern car accessories are becoming available to a wide range of car enthusiasts. Among them, a special niche is occupied by a new head lighting technology. Now you can install on almost any headlights (bulbs) that are used on the latest car models - xenon, bi-xenon, etc. Consider how you can connect xenon to your car.

Advantages of xenon lamps

Xenon lamps give out light, the spectrum of which is as close as possible to daylight. At the same time, due to a number of design features, such lamps have an advantage over halogen and conventional lamps with a filament, in terms of light intensity, and, accordingly, in terms of illumination range.

In addition, the light beam emitted by xenon lamps is well focused, which allows you to use the maximum light in front of the car, and not scatter it on the sides of the road. By the way, this factor greatly simplifies the life of the driver of an oncoming vehicle, since properly adjusted headlights will not dazzle thanks to a directed beam of focused light.

Xenon lamp installation kit

Unlike conventional headlight bulbs, xenon bulbs are sold complete with accessories. This kit includes the lamps themselves - 2 pcs., ignition blocks - 2 pcs., and a set of switching wires.

Wiring diagram for xenon lamps on a car

Regardless of the manufacturer, most xenon lamps are installed according to a standard scheme. But to be sure, most manufacturers, complete with lamps, offer the buyer instructions in which there is a xenon connection diagram. Consider a typical scheme that is suitable for any car. First you need to install the ignition unit. Then do the wiring. When installing the ignition unit, you should choose a place so that the wires are connected to it without tension. It is also desirable that the installation site is not subject to severe pollution, heat, or moisture from outside. The block is fastened with the help of special fasteners on its body and self-tapping screws. It must be firmly fixed. After that, also fix the harness with wires.

After that, it is necessary to replace the lamps in the headlights with new xenon ones. Most xenon lamps are made in standard sizes for standard fixtures. Although there are exceptions, if you have just such an option, then you either need to change the headlight mount or come up with an adapter for installation. Depending on the configuration of the headlights, it is sometimes necessary to drill small holes in the casing for the power wires. In addition, it is recommended to install a sealing rubber in the back wall of the headlights to prevent moisture from entering the bulb.

After that, you need to fix the headlights. Immediately before installation, it is recommended to degrease the lamp bulbs with alcohol and a soft cloth. Connect all wires according to the wiring diagram. Do not forget that the connection of xenon through a relay is carried out according to the scheme without fail, since xenon lamps use high voltage and high frequency to operate. The electrical circuit of the car does not allow you to directly power the lamps.

Xenon Installation Precautions

It is not enough to know how to connect xenon, you should remember a number of nuances that affect the efficiency of the head lighting in general. If there are any damages on the parts of the xenon lamp kit, please contact your dealer or service center to replace them. Do not touch the xenon lamps or the ignition unit with oily or wet hands. It is impossible to look at working xenon lamps for a long time without protective glasses. All wiring connections must be securely insulated. It is forbidden to touch high-voltage wires and flasks during operation of xenon lamps.

Conclusion!

If the xenon lamps go out during the operation of the head light, then the protection in the ignition unit may be the probable cause.

So I decided to write a short article about do-it-yourself xenon installation. In principle, there is nothing complicated in this and no super knowledge of an electrician is required in this. Everything is done easily and simply. But still, I think this article will be useful to someone.!

Some information about the origin of xenon:

The short arc xenon lamp was invented in the 1940s in Germany and introduced in 1951 by Osram. The lamp found wide application in film projectors, from where it replaced mainly carbon arc lamps. The lamp gives a bright white light, close to the daylight spectrum, but has a rather low efficiency. To date, almost all film and digital film projectors use xenon lamps with power from 900 W to 12 kW. Lamps in IMAX projectors can reach up to 15 kW in a single lamp.

Principle of operation:

In a xenon lamp, the main stream of light is emitted by the plasma near the cathode. The luminous region has the shape of a cone, and the brightness of its glow decreases exponentially as it moves away from the cathode. The spectrum of a xenon lamp is approximately uniform throughout the visible light region, close to daylight. In high pressure lamps there may be several peaks near the infrared range, approximately 850-900 nm, which can account for up to 10% of the total radiation in terms of power.

There are also mercury-xenon lamps, in which, in addition to xenon, mercury vapor is present in the bulb. They have luminous areas both near the cathode and near the anode. They emit a bluish-white light with a strong ultraviolet output, which allows them to be used for physiotherapeutic purposes, sterilization and ozonation.

Due to the small size of the luminous area, xenon lamps can be used as a point source of light, allowing for fairly accurate focusing, and a good spectrum causes widespread use in film and photography. Xenon lamps are also used in environmental chambers, which simulate solar radiation to test materials for lightfastness. www.wikipedia.org

And so let's move on to installing xenon on a car.

I apologize for the quality of the photos, there is no good camera and the weather conditions were bad. And so, the VAZ 2107 car will serve as an example for us. There is practically no difference, whether it is a foreign car or a domestic car. The principle is the same. The differences are only in the difficulty of accessing the headlight, mounting, and connecting contacts. Connecting chips may differ on different cars. In general, having understood a little, I think this installation will not be difficult for you.

We will need:

1. Xenon kit (lamps, ignition units)

2. Drill and reamer of a certain diameter, depending on the situation.

3. And the most important desire.

We remove the protective plastic cover from the headlight and drill a hole in it through which the wires from the lamp to the ignition units will pass. This may not be necessary, it all depends on the design of the headlight and access to the connecting wires. Look at the situation, how to do better.

Do not forget that in this hole you will need to bring out the power chip coming from the headlight. To do this, I cut the rubber plug from the edge to the center and passed the wires. You can do it differently, just drill another hole. (on the VAZ 2107 the chip is not small, so the hole will be large) refused this option.

We remove the old halogen lamps and carefully insert the new ones. Close the protective cover, correct the wires, they can interfere with installation.

And just connect the power and the lamp, everything is simple. The type and size of the chips can differ everywhere, depending on the car and the type of xenon, in general, the principle is the same. The end result should be something like this.

I will not talk about fastening the blocks, see for yourself according to the situation. But be sure to place them in a place inaccessible to water and moisture. If there is no space where they can be installed, there is an option to make a mount from a plate of not thick metal and screw it in an accessible place.

Xenon is an inert gas that glows brightly when it comes into contact with an electric current. Xenon lamps are much better than halogen lamps, as they have a number of advantages. They emit a light very similar to daylight, so they do not tire the driver's eyes so much on long trips, even if you install xenon in the high beam. Also, xenon lamps significantly reduce the load on the car's generator and do not break during shaking. Self-installation of xenon is quite easy and any car owner can handle it.

Types of xenon

From a parameter such as temperature, it depends on what brightness and color shade the lamp will be. The color range of xenon varies from yellow to purple. Temperature is measured in degrees Kelvin. More saturated colors are rarely used by motorists, most often white xenon is installed, it looks more like daylight. The yellow color of the headlights will be at a mark of 4050 K. And the white color is equal to a value of 5000 K. A blue tint is obtained at 6000 K, and purple at 18000 K.

Also, xenon lamps come in different sizes. To choose the right lamp for the size you need for the headlight, you should take the old one for comparison.
The durability of the lighting elements is quite high, so xenon lamps will be replaced very rarely.

Also, every motorist needs to know that pseudoxenon is on sale. It has nothing to do with xenon lamps. These are conventional halogen bulbs tinted blue with higher wattage. So when buying xenon you need to be very careful.

Xenon installation

After the appropriate kit was purchased in the store, you can proceed to the beginning of the installation of xenon. It is very simple to do this with your own hands, without resorting to the help of craftsmen. There are two different sets for low beam and high beam. The standard kit for installing xenon comes with two lamps, two ignition units and wires. Connecting xenon without an ignition unit is impossible, only it can supply the required voltage, namely 25,000 V. But this voltage indicator is only necessary for ignition, after that it will be enough to support only 80 V for the normal operation of the lamps.

Now let's move on to the installation. First you need to lift the hood and unscrew the headlights. After that, we take out the old lamps. They can be mounted on a spring, which can be seen in certain types of cars. This means that new lamps should also be installed on this spring. The main thing is to never touch it with your hands before mounting xenon lamps. If it has not already come out without touching, then the surface should be degreased with alcohol. Further, the installation must be carried out according to the scheme.

The xenon connection diagram clearly shows the correct course of action. It is impossible to make a mistake in it, it is very simple.

1. Installing a xenon lamp. If the base does not fit, then you can use special adapters, they sometimes come in a xenon kit. If it's not included in the set, you'll have to buy it separately.

2. After installation, we press the lamp with an elastic band.

3. Through the rubber plug, lead the wires to the ignition unit. It will have to be installed near the headlights, because the wires are not very long. But the chosen place must be dry, otherwise the unit will stop functioning. It can be attached to the hood with tape. To keep the ignition unit from moisture, you can also wrap it with insulating tape.

4. Then we attach the wires coming from the xenon lamp to the regular low or high beam connector. Engaging in the installation of xenon in the high beam and in the dipped beam are two different operations that involve the purchase of two sets. But the installation scheme will be the same. You can even additionally wrap all the wires with insulating tape for greater reliability.

Everything is ready! Now you can actually test the positive properties of xenon lamps and enjoy a wonderful driving experience.

Bixenon

In order not to install two different sets of xenon for low beam and high beam, you can simply buy and connect bi-xenon.
Bi-xenon lamps have the same principle of working with an inert gas, only they are also equipped with an additional electromagnet. It is he who allows you to switch the headlights to low and high beams.

Installing bi-xenon has some nuances. Let's take a closer look at the connection process.

1. The wires from the bi-xenon lamps are connected to the ignition unit.

2. We connect the wires of the controller to the same block. He is engaged in voltage stabilization in all wiring.

3. The bi-xenon lamp has an additional wire responsible for the electromagnet. It should also be connected to the controller.

4. The controller is connected to the battery.

xenon fog lights

Of course, the best option for fog lights is xenon. It will do the job perfectly and is also much better than conventional lamps. They will illuminate the road, not flying drops towards the car.

During installation, you must adhere to the following steps:

  • Remove bumper
  • Unplugging headlights
  • Connecting new lamps
  • We connect xenon lamps to the ignition and power unit
  • We place ignition blocks
  • Checking the fog lights

Safety rules when connecting xenon

How to install xenon correctly has already been described earlier, but not a word was said about security measures. It should be corrected.

Here are the basic safety rules:

  • In case of breakage of parts of the xenon kit, immediately stop the installation
  • Do not work with wet hands
  • It is forbidden to look at burning xenon lamps for a long time without tinted glasses.
  • Electrical wires must be insulated
  • Headlight adjustment must be done with a special tool.

Useful advice: You also need to know that the color shade of xenon lamps may vary slightly from each other. This is normal for xenon.

Advantages of xenon lamps

It is better to buy branded xenon kits, you should not save on improving your own car. We list the main advantages of good xenon.

Self-installation of xenon

By replacing the lamps in the car headlights with xenon ones, you will achieve an extremely high visibility of the roadway, which means you will protect yourself and your passengers. In fog or rain, xenon headlights will only illuminate the road, and not be reflected in water droplets. Xenon - energy-efficient headlights, energy consumption is reduced by 1/3, while this lamp is durable, and can work up to 3000 hours, withstand shock.

Gone are the days when xenon headlights were considered appropriate only for premium cars. Today it is affordable optics, and with self-installation of xenon, you also get it at an attractive price.

To properly install xenon yourself, you need to know how it works. The lamp is a quartz flask in which 2 electrodes are placed. The flask is filled with xenon gas, which glows when current is passed through it, and some metal chlorides.

Xenon lamp device

The lamp ignites only at a voltage of 25,000 V. When the lamp lights up, combustion is maintained even at a voltage of 80 V. To ensure these conditions, before installing xenon lamps, it is also necessary to install a special pre-start unit, as well as a headlight and washer corrector.

Xenon headlight device

Xenon lamps come in several types and differ in their majestic base. The most common lamps with socles on H1, H4, H7 and HB4. You can check which plinth is suitable for your car by comparing your plinth with the table below.

Xenon headlights of various designs give different light in brightness and color.

The most spectacular outwardly - blue. But the most convenient to use and close to daylight stream of rays give white lamps. Their color temperature is 5 - 5.5 thousand K. For fog lights, such lamps are best suited.

Xenon installed in fog lamps

The best manufacturers of ignition units are Hella, Osram and Philips. Excellent reviews are also about the blocks Matsushita, Bosch, in addition, they are easier to install.

Among the manufacturers of xenon lamps, Osram and Philips are considered the best, but they have a rather narrow range of bases. The easiest way is to choose the right base for lamps from Korean manufacturers Eagleye, ZZX Pro, Optima, Alpha, Berus.

Do-it-yourself xenon connection diagram
The process of mounting xenon on different cars is different, but here is a universal scheme that is applicable to most models. The instructions for the xenon kit contain information regarding the features of connecting specific equipment.

Every experienced motorist can connect xenon on their own. Scheme of actions when replacing lamps:

How to install xenon headlight bulbs?

The first step is to purchase a suitable xenon kit.

Step 2: Remove the front bumper.

Step three: unscrew and disassemble the "native" headlight

Step four: remove the "native" headlight, take out the lamp.

If the bases of the gas discharge and xenon lamps do not match slightly, you can use an adapter, which is sometimes included in the xenon kit.

Step five: installation - you need to place the lamp and adapter into the headlight, then press it with a spring and an elastic band.

Step six: we pass the wires in the lamp through the rubber plug.

Step seven: installation of the ignition unit.

Step eight: insert the wires of the xenon block into the low beam connector. For reliability, we additionally fix the wires with electrical tape.

Installation of xenon lamps is completed.

You can stop at this, or you can install xenon lamps for high beams. This requires another set of lamps.
The first step in self-installing xenon will be the dismantling of the bumper and headlights, if the installation starts from scratch.

The second stage - we get a halogen lamp from the headlights.

The third stage - we install xenon, return the sealed plug for the headlight, making the appropriate holes for the wires in it.

The fourth stage - in the same way we install a xenon headlight for another headlight.

Fifth stage - we mount the ignition unit

The sixth stage is connecting the wires, fixing both headlights.

The seventh stage is the adjustment of xenon.

A mandatory procedure when replacing lamps with xenon ones is the installation of a xenon ignition unit. Next, we will describe in detail how to do it yourself.

Block for xenon ignition (figure)

When choosing a place to install the ignition unit, it must be borne in mind that high humidity adversely affects the device. Acting on the device, it leads to breakdowns and frequent repairs of blocks. We recommend installing the device under the hood, near the headlights.

The example shows the placement of one block under the bumper reinforcement mount, and the second - near the rib near the washer reservoir.

If you build up the wires, you can mount the blocks in other, more convenient places.

It should also be borne in mind that the ignition blocks of the Matsushita and Bosch brands have a feature. In them, the ignitor, or in other words, the high-voltage part, is located outside the block itself and therefore is attached directly to the headlight.

Bi-xenon - is installed on car models, where one lamp is designed for high and low beam in the headlights. Bi-xenon is also able to switch to different modes. The spectrum of the glow changes due to the design of the lamp.

Installing a bi-xen lamp not only improves the quality of the luminous flux, but also prevents the appearance of glare that blinds drivers in oncoming cars.

bi-xenon lamp beam

You can install bi-xenon on your own only in some types of socles: the most popular H4, as well as HB-1, HB-5, and H13. Installation will be simplified if the car is equipped with a standard ignition unit. In this case, it will only be necessary to modify the headlight itself. Step by step installation:

1. Remove the front bumper (simply bending it may be sufficient, without removing the lower mounts).

2. disassemble the headlights by removing all springs and brackets

3. We break off 2 ledges without damaging the place for the lamp itself.

4. Scraping out all the old sealant (heating with a hairdryer will help speed up the procedure)

5. We drill a hole for wiring on the deflector (after placing the lenses in the headlight, it should be hidden by a regular curtain)

6. Insert the lamp, pull the wires into the hole (guided by the diagram in the instructions with the rules for installing bi-xenon)

7. Align the lens, fix it with a nut, fill the gap between the lamp installation site and the washer with hot-melt adhesive, glue the headlight with the cover with sealant.

Installation of bi-xenon ends with the installation of a bumper.

Self-installation of xenon in foglights is also not a difficult task. This will provide good visibility in bad weather, in addition, xenon will illuminate the roadside perfectly. The light from the xenon headlights looks very impressive.

Step-by-step installation of xenon in foglights:

1. Removing the original lamp (some models do not require this)

2. We take a xenon lamp, install it in place of the previous one in the headlight.

3. Connect the lamp.

4. We complete the installation by installing xenon ignition blocks.

Please note that if xenon lamps for low and high beams are already installed in the car, then it is not easy to place new ignition units. However, there is one trick. We take the block and fasten the iron mount with electrical tape.

Carefully screw the ignition unit.

Connecting the leash is simple - all actions are extremely unambiguous.

After installing both blocks, we put fog lights.

Installing xenon on your own is quite simple in the reversing lights. To do this, you need to purchase the appropriate set of lamps.

Dismantle the old lights.

We cut off the connector intended for the old lamp and solder it to the xenon one.

In order for the xenon lamp to fit in the ceiling, you can grind off a hole for it, and in order for the lamp to sit securely, you can wrap the hole with electrical tape, or use sealant.

The negative wire in the pre-start block is connected to a common minus.

The positive wire is disconnected to the red wire (in both cases it is better to use round terminals).

The wire connection area should be insulated.
The wire connecting the pre-start unit and the xenon lamp is pushed through a rubber band specially designed for this.

New wiring should be insulated. Bundle the wires.

You can seal the remaining extra holes with glue.

Install taillights.

When installing xenon headlights in any car lights, you need to know and follow the safety measures:

Installation is not carried out with wet or oily hands, do not touch the included lamps, wires and starting block.

All electrical connections must be insulated, as they heat up when oxidized, which can cause a fire in the wiring.

It is impossible to look without dark glasses at the included xenon headlights, it injures the eyes.

Installed xenon headlights should be adjusted to achieve the best illumination of the road. For this you need:

Park the car against a flat wall at a distance of about 5 meters. Draw a line horizontally on the wall opposite the center of the headlights (1). Draw a parallel line 75 millimeters lower (2). Draw another line vertically, step back from it the same distance and draw 2 lines indicating the center of the headlights (A, B). Scheme:

Turn on low beam. Having closed one headlight, adjust the other, then the first in the same way. The headlights should be adjusted using the adjusting screws.

You can adjust the dipped beam vertically by tightening screw A, horizontally - screw B.

Headlights shine correctly when the top border of the light spots coincides with the bottom line, and the light beam breaks where the vertical line goes.

The fog lights are almost the same:

Install the car 5 meters from the wall. Measure the distance from the ground to the center of the fog lights, draw a horizontal strip on the wall at the same distance from the ground. Draw a parallel line 50 millimeters lower.
Scheme:

You can change the tilt of the light beams by turning the adjusting screws. Adjust both headlights in this way.

Ideally, the top edges of the spots of light should line up with the bottom band. In this position, the fog lights will cover the roadside well without dazzling oncoming drivers.
